Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano was a Mexican statesman and civil engineer. The son of President Lázaro Cárdenas (1934–1940), he was known for his contributions to Mexico's democracy and his 1988 presidential campaign. Cárdenas was regarded as one of the leading leftist figures in Mexico and in Latin America.
